The NBA has been changed by the Euroleague's play style. While popular youtube videos by former Euroleague player Ricky Rubio brought a lot of attention the the eurostep layup, another former Euroleague player popularized the Eurostep in the NBA, Manu Ginobli. The Eurostep is a quick move that guards use to get by bigger defenders for an easy layup. Before Ginobli and Rubio, nobody had even heard about the Eurostep in the NBA. Now, the most elite guards use that move on a regular basis! The Euroleague has even effected how teams play as a whole. The reigning NBA Champions, the San Antonio Spurs, used a style of play that is very common in the Euroleague. They made a large amount of passes and during most possessions, all 5 players would touch the ball. They executed that play style to perfection and many other teams are trying to adapt that play style. Their advantage over other teams that tried to copy that Euroleague style was that they have a good amount of players that had spent time over seas, so they already knew this system. The NBA would honestly be nothing without the Euroleague. Besides the play styles that the NBA has adopted, they would have missed out on many amazing players. Two of the Spurs big three came from the Euroleague, the aforementioned Manu Ginobli and a crafty guard named Tony Parker. They would have also missed Boris Diaw, the power forward who shined during the Spurs' championship run. Dirk Nowitzki, a German power forward, will go down in history as one of the best shooting forwards in history. He would have never been noticed if he hadn't played stellar basketball in the Euroleague. The list goes on with even more great players, the Pau and Marc Gasol, Ricky Rubio, Nikola Mirotic, but one thing stays the same, they were found because of the Euroleague.
There will always be an inspiration for an idea. The ones who will leave their mark on history take an inspiration and create something that will inspire others,
Will you inspire?
