In Chapter 19 in The Adventures of Tom Sawyer Tom Sawyer lies, but cleverly gains his Aunts trust back. He says he dreamt that he saw his Aunt’s conversation with Mrs. Harper, but really just spied in on it. Once his Aunt figured out that he was lying, she confronted him but he revealed a truth that helped Tom to regain his Aunt’s trust. He said he had written a note on a piece of bark, and when she checked his coat, sure enough, it was there. I have seen something like this in my life when a kid does something mean to another kid and then sucks up to the adult that gets mad at them to get out of trouble. That is one of the most annoying things to see and it happens far too often. Tom Sawyer can never keep a hold of anyone’s trust or respect, but often finds a way to earn it back.
